House number Q & A.
Question: I live in a townhouse. Can I put my number on my rear fence?
Answer:
No. The number must be located on the building structure. If you have a 6 ft. fence, the number must be located on the rear
of the building in such a way that it can be seen from the sidewalk. This would mean that it must be above the height of the
fence on the rear of the building.
Question: I have an original script
house number. Is this sufficient?
Answer: No. The number must be numerical. You
may elect to keep the script number as long as you have a numerical number elsewhere on the structure that meets the requirement
of the ordinance.
Question: I have a porch overhang or alcove. Can I place
my number under the overhang?
Answer: Yes, as long as it meets the visibility
requirements, but it would be recommended to have another number over your garage or on a front porch post, or above the alcove
area for easier visibility. Remember that in an emergency situation, the police, fire or EMS services have second to locate
your house.
Question: I have one of those curb signs painted on the curb, or
I have a free standing house number sign. What about those?
Answer: These
signs DO NOT meet the requirements of theordinance. They are nice of you want them, but you MUST have a number on the structure.
